Weather watch information A deepening area of low pressure will bring a period of strong winds across Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland on Saturday which will continue during Sunday morning. WSW winds will strengthen to gale force, initially across Northern Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland during Saturday afternoon. The strong winds will eventually extend across all parts of Scotland including the Northern Isles. Winds will typically gust at 50-55mph, although during their peak, gusts in excess of 60mph are likely, particularly across exposed mainland coasts and the northern and western isles of Scotland. Accompanying the strong winds will be periods of heavy and at times persistent rain, which will make way to frequent heavy and blustery showers, some of which may contain hail and thunder. Rainfall totals will be high, particularly over higher ground in central Scotland.
