Regions committee transforms Yemen into six-region federation February 10, 2014 -SANAA In a meeting chaired by President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, the committee, tasked with determining the number of regions in a federal state, agreed on Monday to transform Yemen into a six-region federation. The six agreed regions include four in the north - Azal, Saba, Janad and Tehama - and two in the south, Aden and Hadhramout. According to the final approval of the committee the six regions would be as follows; The first region is the region of Hadhramout which would be composed of Hadhramout, al-Mahera, Shabwa and Socotra Island provinces. The capital of the region would be al-Mukkla. The second region is the region of Saba which would be composed of al-Jawf, Marib, al-Bedhae provinces. The capital of the region would be Marib. The third region is the region of Aden, Abyan, Lahj and al-Dhalea provinces. The capital of the region would be Aden. The fourth region is the region of Janad which would be composed of Taiz and Ibb provinces. The capital of the region would be Taiz. The fifth region is the region of Azal which would be composed of Saada, Sanaa, Ameran and Dhamar provinces. The capital of the region would be Sanaa. The sixth region is the region Tehama which would be composed of Hodeida, Rayma, al-Mahweet and Hajah provinces. The capital of the region would be Hodeida. The capital city of Sanaa will not be affiliated to a region and will have a special status in the Constitution to guarantee its independence and impartiality. Also the committee approved that Aden province will be an economic city and have a special status, and independent legislative and executive powers which are to be stipulated in the Constitution. During todays meeting, the committees members handed over their final report to President Hadi signed by all the 22 members of the committee as follows; 1- Abdul-Kareem Al-Eryani, 2-Mohamed Mohammed Qahtan 3-Abu Baker Abdul Razak Ba Dheeb 4-Sultan Hezam Al-Atwani 5-Yassin Omar Makkawi 6-Saleh Ahmed bin Habra 7-Ghaleb Abdullah Motleq al-Dhareai 8-AbdullahSalem Lamlas 9-Nadia Abdul Aziz Al-Saqqaf 10- Afrah Abdul Azia Al-Zouba 11-Khaled Abu Baker Baras 12-Abdul Kader Ali Helal 13-Mohamed Ali Abu Lawhom 14-Moeen Abdul Malik Saeed 15-Ahmed Abu Baker Ba Zarea 16-Yasser Ahmed Salem al-Awadhi 17-Saeed Salem Ba Hakeba 18-Alaezi Hebat allah Ali Shreem 19-Mokebel Nasser Lakerash 20-Awad Mohammed bin al-Wazeer al-Awlaqi 21-Ahmed Mohamed al-Qardeai 22- Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, a member and a rapporteur to the committee. President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi issued in January a Presidential decree No. 2 for 2014 forming a committee, tasked with determining the number of regions in a federal state.
