Regrets are odd. They come up at you from the past and things you never thought were wrong choices haunt you. Here is a big one that has never gone away. I was even SURE I was doing the right thing at the time. I was shooting the movie Stanleys Gig. I was playing an orthodox Jew who ran an old folks home. So I had the beard and the little head covering or yarkmulke. I had the little tassels coming out from under my shirt. I looked very properly religious. We were shooting in Hollywood. I was taking a break - sitting on the lawn drinking a Coke. A Latino man came up to me and said,Excuse me, Father. My mother is dying. I cant find a priest. Can you please come and say something to her. Listen to her confession? I was embarrassed. I sort of laughed and said I couldnt I wasnt a priest. I was an actor. I had to go back in in a second and shoot. The man said, Please just for a minute. I said, No. It would be wrong for me to do it. It could upset her. The man said he was sorry to bother me and continued to run down the street looking for someone to hear his mothers last words. How could I have been so wrong?
