Regular attendance is vital. Regular attendance is defined as greater than 90%. While 90% might sound like an impressive figure, it still means that your child is still missing one day every two weeks, or one week every term, or a whole month of a school year. Research indicates that the negative impact on learning for students with less that 90% attendance is profound. Our students’ results definitely reflect that finding. Parents and caregivers bear the legal responsibility for ensuring that their children are prepared for school and arrive on time every day. Basic needs such as adequate sleep, healthy nutrition, school uniform and equipment are all part of that responsibility. Some tips for improving your child’s attendance include: * Encourage and maintain healthy routines for sleep and nutrition. * Promote good personal organisation. * Actively supervise morning routines to ensure punctuality. * Be fully involved - discuss school every day, attend parent nights and other school events. * Set high expectations and discuss progress. * Ensure sick days are genuine and inform the school. Attending school regularly will develop skills and attitudes that will help your child to be successful in later life. These include self-discipline, punctuality, being organised and sticking to routines. If your child is missing more than one day every two weeks, please contact the school to discuss with the pastoral care team ways to improve his/her attendance. Thank you.
