Regular chartered Imphal-Mandalay flight service on the card : Nod received from Civil Aviation Ministry IMPHAL, Nov 1 : Regular chartered ATR flights between Imphal and Mandalay would be launched on the inaugural day of this year’s Manipur Sangai Festival. Notably, it was on the inaugural day of last year’s edition of the annual tourism festival that an aircraft of Myanmar’s Golden Airlines landed at Imphal airport thereby putting Manipur on the international aviation map. According to information received from KB Enterprises which is one of the key agencies lobbying hard for introduction of regular chartered flights between Imphal and Mandalay, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has given its approval to launch regular chartered flights between Imphal and Mandalay. Regular air service between Imphal and Mandalay would be launched from Mandalay on November 21, the opening day of Manipur Sangai Festival 2014. There would similar flights on November 25 and November 30, the last day of the festival. The ATR aircraft having 67 seats would bring Myanmarese delegates and other passengers to Imphal. The return flight from Imphal would take passengers to Mandalay who wish to visit the neighbouring country. Even after the festival concludes, there would be chartered flight service between Imphal and Mandalay until regular flight service is launched between the two cities. It is reported that KB Enterprises would open booking of tickets for Mandalay-Imphal as well as Imphal-Mandalay flight from tomorrow. On the other hand, the State Government has already invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grace the festival as chief guest either at the opening ceremony or the closing function. The State Government has also been making elaborate preparations with a view to put Manipur on the tourism map of the world through this year’s Manipur Sangai Festival. The Government of Manipur has also invited the Chief Minister of Myanmar’s Chin State to the annual festival. Ambassadors (to India) of Australia, Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia and some other countries would attend the festival. Source: Sangai Express
