Regulating Money Market Funds - Talk Show in Brussels. Im in Brussels and in a couple hours, Im going to give a very brief talk on Money Market Funds Regulations & Practices to an audience of lawyers, officials from MEP offices, and asset managers. I guess I can chaulk up this talk as part of my impact factor for the monograph that Dr. Viktoria Balkanova & I edited. Ill do my best to sell the book. The participant list is about 65. Federated & Legal & General are sponsors to the event. QeD is the conference organiser. The simple message which I hope to convey to this group representing trillions of euros is: (1) dont follow the rule making of the US mechanically because your market is in a different phase of development; and (2) do establish more rules for standard transparency so all investors can see under the hood that is, so they can make their own free choice about whether to be invested in the underlying assets of the asset managers portfolio. (1) avoids regulatory failure, and (2) encourages market development. Simple upshot: Without informed free choice, there is no market.
