Related to my comments elsewhere about who it is we end up speaking to, here is Marta M Stelmaszak on the subject of the ideal customer avatar. Im curious, so heres a question for anyone who works with direct clients: Who is it at the company who tends to contact you? What industry are you in? I think this varies a lot by industry. Therefore, what works for the marketing translator who speaks to the CEO or marketing director might not work for the scientific translator who speaks to the researcher or director of communications (who has less idea about the details of the field than you do), and so on.
