Relationships to Treasure By Patricia M. Warren, RN Admin Senior Home Companions She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion. Author Unknown # What is it about these wonderful little creatures that we share our world, our homes, and our lives with, that make them so special to so very many people? # They can lift our spirits and alleviate stress as nothing else can. # They can add joy and cheer to the life of a person of any age who lives alone. # Their very presence can calm and soothe a person who is experiencing some mild confusion or memory loss. # Just petting them can have a positive effect on our Blood Pressure. # They can bring a smile at even the saddest of times, by just a little “nuzzle” with a wet nose. # They are always happy to see us. # They wait patiently for us to come home. # Their tails are wagging, and they wait again to see what fascinating thing we are going to do next. WE NEED TO BE MORE LIKE OUR PETS!! Just think how peaceful life would be if we all had the ability to look past the things that we find difficult in others. Or how much easier our days would be if we could communicate with others without judgment. Or wait patiently for something we really wanted without complaining. As someone once said: “It would be a better world, if we were as wonderful as our pets think we are….” They make us smile and laugh even when dealing with some of life’s toughest issues, such as, the current economy, changes related to poor health, aging issues, retirement or loss of a friend or loved one. We tend to put aside our troubles when we share warm and tender times with our beloved pets. They are always there……waiting, just in case we might need them. They also teach us patience and bring out our softer side. Who could ask for more than that? The relationship between people and their animals should be treasured and not be missed. They can truly be a blessing. It’s amazing how much these little friends enhance our day-to-day lives and help to keep us healthy and balanced. They accept us just as we are…..consider adding this kind of unconditional loving relationship to your life! Patricia M.
