Relatives in relationship commit suicide in Bagdogra Report by: PRASHANT ACHARYA (EOIC) The Bagdogra police today recovered the bodies of a couple, apparently in a relationship, who had committed suicide by hanging from a tree using a dupatta (scarf). The lovers’ lifeless bodies were found near Gayaganga Tea Estate, a few kilometres west of Upper Bagdogra. The bodies were sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The police said no suicide note was found and investigations are on to find out why the two had taken such a fatal decision. The male has been identified as Niranjan Singha (26), a resident of Baukhali, Tarbandha near Bagdogra. He was an electrician by profession. Meantime, the female was identified as Pavita Singha (21), a resident of Phansidewa, who was in her 3rd year at Bagdogra College. A probe has revealed Niranjan and Pavita were related, said the police. It has been found that Pavita was Niranjan’s aunt’s daughter, making them first cousins. Meanwhile, friends and other acquaintances said the two were often spotted in isolated places. According to Niranjan’s brother, Rajan, the two had stepped out of home early in the morning and were never seen since then. Family members tried to contact them in their mobile phones, but the service providers notified that both phones were unreachable. When asked whether family members were aware of their relationship, Rajan said nobody knew about it.
