Release Party 2014 - Ive Gotta Be Me by SammyJ We held a release party for my new single on Tuesday evening, at Emeritus Senior Living Center in Austin. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, Christie Brinkley, and Beyoncé were unable to attend, but Mom and I were joined by Vicki and David. It was purely coincidence that the center was having a family night at the same time as my release party. Steve Lawrence first recorded Ive Gotta Be Me in 1968, a song from the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow starring Steve, and Eydie Gormé. We grew up listening to Moms Steve and Eydie albums, so Ive wanted to record this song for many years. The popular Toyota commercial featuring Sammy Davis Jr.s hit version of the song reminded me how good it is. We had a wonderful evening and when it came time to play my new song, a mere 3 minutes out of several hours, Vicki was unable to shut up for those mere 3 minutes and so nobody, particularly Mom, was able to hear it. Vicki did say that even though were talking, we know that its playing, and thats good. So it was a successful launch as usual. Which is great, because I do it for her. The photographer hired for the release party couldnt make it either, so we took a selfie to commemorate the release. It got late, so we ended the party at 6:45 PM since most of the residents were going to bed.
