Release of the second in the Some Came Home DVD series is imminent and orders can be placed through John Schindler as he has advised in email correspondence to Phil Ainsworth Editor John Bailey and I have just finished the 2 hour 4 minute DVD release titled “SOME CAME HOME from the Hell Ships” Please see the attached slick. Included in this DVD is an interview with Yoshiaki Yamaji who explains the events following the sinking of the Montevideo Maru, the killing of most of the Japanese survivors when their lifeboat made landfall in the Phillipines and his feelings after the tragic event when as a merchant seaman his ship passed the place where the Montevideo Maru sank. The DVD is currently being replicated and we have been advised we can pick up the order on the 19th of December 2014. We will be immediately posting out free copies to those interviewed. I am so pleased to advise you that of the 9 interviewees (all ex prisoners and all over 90 years of age) there is to the best of my knowledge just one man who has passed away and that was the very charming veteran Fred Lasslett. The interviews contain some humour which is the Australian way of coping when Aussies are in dire straits. Former Australian Surf Lifesaver Llyod Munro (who survived the sinking of 3 ships) explains that as his second ship (prison ship Rakuyo Maru) was sinking he jumped in the ocean and called out to his fellow Australian prisoners “come on in fellas – the water is fine” The DVD is $30 posted anywhere in Australia. If folks order now I’ll get it in the mail on the 19th December 2014 and chances are they will have it by Christmas. It is great to have been able to get these interviews off the shelves and edited into DVD format where they can be seen by all. The DVD incorporates the riveting and fascinating experiences of those veterans from 4 different countries who managed to survive against all odds.
