Religion. Perhaps over 90% of the people in the World profess to have a faith, with maybe close to 80% belonging to organized religions. It is as unlikely that any organized religion will disappear for the next 2000 years as me becoming a Professor. Most people come into a religion randomly by virtue of their birth to practising parents. Whether God puts you there is a guess at best. Most embrace, believe and practise the religion they were born in, out of respect, fear and trust for their parents. Sure, some will change. Faiths are so ingrained that hoping to talk someone out of it is indeed a futile exercise. We usually get into such debates when religionists felt slighted and hurt and have a need to respond when and especially when blasphemy is perceived. Meanwhile it can also happen when believers preach and proselytize as is part of their duties. As an average Malaysian or an average citizen of the World, ordinarily we should have many friends of differing faiths. It is easy to say that we should not speak to hurt our friends when we criticize their faiths. But this is bound to happen. For sure. I am of the opinion that friends of differing faiths should accept each other in spite of the criticisms. After all, both your friends and your God and you can co-exist without really harming any of the 3 parties.
