Religion and Science. Having come through the second first (not the usual progression, I know), and in a more-than-neck-deep plunge (not my first) into the western canonical literature (thats Bible-stuff) in the deep end of the pool, I can officially tell you that Religion (organized) is as absolutely-hideously-absurdly-plainly-inexcusably dishonest, full of shite, special pleading, dodgy arguments and all around utter personal intellectual bullshit as... science. They are one and the same. To cover their obvious philosophical errors, one uses theoretical math, institutional cover-up, confirmational bias and, when all else fails, attack and censorship of honest critics; the other uses a notion of history, coupled with a fear of damnation (and the attack and persecution of honest critics). Dont get me wrong; the universe is, to me, alive, thinking, feeling, breathing, organizing, improvising and creative. But to say that a dude names YHWH made it? Or that a singularity called Big Bang? Its just a name for what is beyond sound and silence, rest and motion, space and solid, good and evil, up and down, hot and cold. Its the infinite unknowable that births us, to which we return.
