Religious tolerance is probably never going to work, because all religions basically believe that all the other religions are wrong, that only their followers are special, and that it is their duty to change the minds of those who follow others. Thi kind of attitude creates tremendous rifts in countries and cultures, and even leads to wars, death & destruction. Its really about time mankind grew up, dropped this silly idea of God, and started taking some responsibilty for the conflict and destruction WE have caused, trying to prove whose idea of God is right, or who owns what. If there is any god at all, it is nature, the universe which sustains us all, but instead of honouring that, we come up with some man made versions (loaded with childish human ideals) to concentrate on, and ignore the real one.As a result, nearly everything about our civilisation, and the way we live is wrong, and many folk are not fulfilled. We would do well to remember what we are, and where we come from. That would be a good start.
