Remark : - The Article below is written by Ronnie Phoon and I am solely borrowing it for General Reading here. Read with an Open Mind and enjoy :) Instead of flooding owners thread, I think it will be more appropriate to create a new thread pertaining on basic fundamental skills. (Please take note that the following comments and POVs are just solely on my personal opinions). No offense guys! Before even I started off with my lengthy essays, allow me to ask some question:- 1. What is the big deal of not getting rid of seam-lines on your kits? 2. What is the big deal of leaving mould-lines all around my kits? If these two simple questions comes to your answer is No or Who cares? or Does it really matters?, then I suggest you not to read the following comments. Just enjoy what you are doing for the time being. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic knowledge:- Basic fundamental skill (please take note especially those who wannabe a commissioner) 1. Covering seam-lines. To minimize imperfection looks to your works. Arguable it would be just merely a toys rather than a model kits if we skip this step. 2. Remove mould-lines. Ditto as per above mentioned. 3. Surfacer on your kit. Two advantage points as you get via this step. A) You can check any visible error in much more easier way. B) Your finishing paint will get better adherence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conclusion:- Well, some might even are too restricted to it that its a must to conduct before calling it as a true modelers works. Anything without these fundamental works is nothing but a rookie/ noob works. Hence we all are easily start tagging or labeling others from it. Which Im half agree to it cos I got no rights to claim others wrongful nor rightful deeds out of it. Issit necessary to fulfilled these 3 simple steps? In general, I must agree with an answer YES. Arguable? Lets put cases like infamous Makoto Kobayashis works. He dont stick to the golden rules. His works are well known globally and his works sells like hotcakes at Wonderfest in Japan. His creation published in Hobby Japan not once but whenever his new creation works are shared. Hes a legend, no doubt about it. So can we call him a rookie / noob? I let you do think thinking. For those commision-wannabe, please read:- Please justified your works. You cant compare with Makoto Kobayashi or Kow Yokoyama. They are different league which no way to be compared or using them as an excuses. Imagine you paid for a plate of KFC snack plate but endup getting a plate of bones. Can you accept that? And moreover, its gonna be a huge blow for those who are full time commissioner out there. They paid not are not been justified of what they have done. Sorry, allow me to utter, theres a lot of cheapskate collectors out there. As old sayings, Harga mau murah tapi Besi mau banyak kinda attitude still lingers to every collectors out there. Its a fact that this culture being embedded within our community. So dont spoilt the whole broth of soup just because you think you re a good cook. For those hobbyist, please read:- Well Im in this category for sure cos I dont do commission works. Technically, I dont stick to the golden rules much. (Please dont follow my footstep. Its a very bad examples)...... But I always adhere to these objectives: A) hardwork B) determination These are my golden rules whenever Im setting objectives for my works. Im willing to spend months after months just to meetup my own expectation even most of local modelers wouldnt agree with my method of building my models. But Im a hobbyist. Aint suppose is the true intention of having fun without too much constraint? When does anyone said those basic rules must be applied in order to enjoy this activities?Again, I leave it to your POVs. Its a subject to individual preferences. We got no rights to claimed whats is right or wrong to something that we does not agree. So as a hobbyist, we are lucky enough that we still got the chances of knowing what is scale modeling is all about. So, just enjoyed what we capable of and of course do not abuse it by seek our own personal agendas.
