Remember the "Anthropogenic Arctic Volcano" blog that I did a while ago, with the caveat that we must slash emissions at the same time. arctic-news.blogspot.ca/2013/01/anthropogenic-arctic-volcano-can-calm-climate.html From Jerry... boston/bostonglobe/ideas/brainiac/2013/07/to_solve_global.html Blocking the sun seems as impossible as emptying the oceans or flying across the galaxy, but as journalist Erin O’Donnell explains, David Keith and other solar engineers think that on a pure nuts-and-bolts basis, it might not be that hard at all. The sulfates would join with water vapor to make aerosols, which would reflect a small percentage of sunlight back into space, before it can enter the lower atmosphere and get trapped by greenhouse gases. It’s a technique designed around the volcano model (volcanic eruptions spew sulfur to a similar cooling effect), and it’s something that any country could start doing tomorrow, for a lot less money and effort than it would take wean ourselves from fossil fuels. Now for the red flags (there’s more than one)....
