Remember the fogs (SMOGS) of the 50s-60s before the clean air act came about .I used to work in Witton at GEC electric avenue and on the No 11 bus leaving at 515 I would normally get home at 550 .but in the smog which usually came down at about 3-4 in the afternoon it could take me until 830 to get home to winson green. One night it was so bad (1963 november) we walked home thro 6 ways aston-lozells-St Michaels hill and so forth up to bellefield road 9.00pm we got home and when you blew your nose,it was black with soot.We even got lost on st michaels hill and ended up in a builders yard after not seeing the gate (IT WAS THAT BAD) Any like memories out there.
