Remember the fun listening to your transistor radio at night? Chicago and Wisconsin were easy to find stations, Detroit/Winsor on a good night (CKLW?) on a exceptional night you could get NYC stations. FM radio, was cutting edge technology and you were lucky if your radio was AM/FM. Blessed if your car had FM or even a 8-track. Driving to the beach and watching and listening to thunderstorms over the lake on the radio. W-empty (WMTE) as we called it went off the air at 10pm, unless the blue goose was late landing, the planes used the radio signal somehow in their navigation. Some of the WMTE on air personalities had a hard time with names like Smith, but were right on the money with any Polish name in the phone book. If you went in the hospital, had a baby, got out of the hospital your name was on the radio and in the News Advocate. I recall a long awkward pause one time as the DJ read the births and only the mothers name was given.
