Remember the “mortgage-backed securities” that were largely responsible for the financial collapse of 2008? Some of those same private equity firms are now working with big banks to make new bets on the housing market by once again bundling interest in hundreds of thousands of homes – many lost to foreclosure after 2008 – which are to be rented back to middle-class families like the ones who lost them in the first place. That’s right – “rental-backed securities.” But hey, that’s nothing to worry about, right? These guys must know what they’re doing. After all, they kept making money even during the economic crisis they helped create. Besides - they’re “makers,” not “takers.”
