To report suspicious activity please call Washington County Dispatch at 651-439-9381 or 9-1-1. Recently, Cottage Grove Police were called to the 8600 block of Hale Ave on a report of a suspicious situation. An 8 year old reported to her father that an older white male, described as “Grandpa like”, driving a red pick-up truck and wearing a red t-shirt stopped on the road while she was standing on a driveway and asked her if she wanted some candy. He then immediately left the area. Officers arrived in the area soon after being dispatched but the person/truck was not located, and we have had no additional calls similar to this one. We have been doing extra patrol but rely on our citizen’s to immediately report suspicious activity by calling 911. We know this situation garnered social media attention amongst community members. We take into consideration many factors before we send out crime alerts. While Cottage Grove is a safe community, crime can happen anywhere. Please use this as an opportunity to talk with your kids. The little girl did the right thing by telling her father right away.
