Remember when 3rd grade math was easy??? Well this is how it is being taught now. This is from a local Denton school, but I know it is being taught all over. This is what standardize testing is doing to our schools. I know this is not a bad thing for all students, I have actually taught some of my special needs students this way, but the kids are being required to master each of these versions. Teachers, please dont tell me this is not the case, I spent 4 years fighting with Peytons teachers to allow him to only do it the d school way unless he got it wrong because spending hours with a screaming 10 year old who hates having to do it when they get it the first time. Now, I currently tutor 2 more kids locally whose parents are fighting this battle nightly as well. Again, I dont knock it for those that do not get the traditional way, as another alternative but not being forced to do every option on every problem every day. For once I am glad my kids are out of elementary school.
