Remember when your dad would tell you to shut the refrigerator - TopicsExpress

Remember when your dad would tell you to shut the refrigerator because Youre letting all the warm air in! Well, you can tell your dad he was wrong. You let all the COLD air OUT. Air flows from higher pressure to lower pressure. If you stand with your back to the wind, higher pressure will be behind you. Cold air is more dense than warm air, and thus has higher pressure. So...when you open the fridge, the cold air, having higher pressure flows toward the lower pressure of the warmer room air. Its like a wind is blowing out of the fridge. As that cold air leaves the fridge, it tends to leave a partial vacuum, which nature truly does abhor. Cant have that. That would mean things are out of balance. So...after enough cold air leaves, warm air is finally pushed in by the atmosphere to replace it. Science is cool. Get it? Cool? So next time someone tells you to shut the fridge because youre letting the warm air in, you can retort with, Nooooo, Im cooling off the room. And grazing.
