Remembering Our Fallen Officers From 1895-2013: 62 Riverside County Peace Officers have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting and serving its fellow citizens, fighting for our safety, freedom and running into danger when all else is running away. The calling in their hearts to Serve and Protect, putting their lives in danger to protect us day in and day out is Heroic in itself, losing their life in the Line of Duty instilling their Sworn Oath to its Citizens who they protect and serve is an unfortunate act we can never repay to the Officers, Family, Friends and Fellow LEOs. Only our Thoughts, Prayers and Continued Support will suffice in the long road of grieving... On May 19, 2014 Fellow Officers, Friends and Family Members gathered together for the Riverside County Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony in Downtown Riverside, adding Correctional Officer Gilbert Cortez and Officer Michael Crain name to the Safe in His Arms Memorial. Officer Crain and Cortez ceremony was bittersweet, also a strong reminder of the risk our Officers endure every minute, every hour and every day they put on the Uniform. Our Officers kiss, hug and wave at their families before leaving for work with a promise to return, just as all of us do, and some unfortunately dont return... Breaking a promise they have no control over due to the evil in our society. They are greeted at their door from an unwanted visit that their Husband, Wife, Daddy, Mommy, Son, Daughter, Sister, Brother or Friend was killed in the line of duty and wont be able to hug them again... It is a very tough job as a Law Enforcement Officer with little to no reward from society, just the satisfaction of Living day by day by the Oath... I am writing this on behalf of Myself, Steve, Dan, and LEO supporters everywhere, and would encourage everyone to take a step back, look at the big picture and Ponder, Think, and Reminisce on how Valuable not only Life is, but what a strong impact Officers have on keeping our loved ones safe, even sacrificing their lives in the process... Please Share this Post as it is Dear and Near to our Hearts... We leave you with this... For the Fallen.... They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. - Laurence Binyon
