Remembering the Sultan of Hindustani Melodies in Malayalam - Babukka on his 36th death anniversary. It was not a Rags to Riches story. He always remained poor. But he certainly was a poor man who made us rich. Mohammed Sabir Baburaj as a young boy sang on the streets and trains for his daily bread. A policeman , noticing his talent adopted him. He went to Bombay, begged on the streets and learned Hindustani music. The rest is history. I consider him as one of the most talented musicians Malayalam film industry ever had. Some of his most popular songs and their raagas - Nadikalil sundari yamuna (Yamuna Kalyani), Surumayezhuthiya mizhikale(Pahadi), Thaliritta kinaakkal than (Kalyani), Oru pushpam maathramen (Desh), Thaamasamenthe varuvaan (Bimplaas), Akale akale neelaakaasham (Charukesi), Praanasakhi nhan (Sindhu Bhairavi) and the best Malayalam Khawaali song Panchavarna thatha pole (Gowri Manohari). My respects to the great maestro.
