Remembering the late, great Wolfman Jack born on this day in Brooklyn, NYC in 1938. Famous for his gravelly voiced delivery, the deejay born Robert Weston Smith was a mainstay of the US airwaves throughout the 1960s and into the 70s. A champion of RocknRoll and R&B, the Wolfman enjoy a cameo appearance in George Lucass coming-of-age movie American Graffiti wherein the deejays XERB show provides the movies near-constant soundtrack. In gratitude for his participation, the fledgling film-maker gave him a fraction of a point (a percentage share of the films profits); the movies enduring commercial success provided him with a steady income for life. Other cinematic and televisual appearances followed but the Wolfman remained dedicated to his broadcasting craft. His 1995 autobiography Have Mercy: Confessions Of The Original RocknRoll Animal, described as a collaboration between Mark Twain and Sergio Leone, received rave reviews in both the New York and Los Angeles Times.
