Remembering the man Dr Jayaprakash Narayan on this Birthday! On May 23rd, 2010 late evening sat with Peddayana (sweet name for Dr JP), few other PFL friends and had a detailed conversation about campaigns that need to be taken up and also that are inclusive of NRIs. Peddayana suggested NRI Voting Rights as an important tool/instrument for the success of Indian Democracy and that Indian citizens no matter where they live should fight for their basic right - Vote. Then on had the privilege of working with amazing PFL friends (tagged in most of them) on NRI Voting Rights campaign for almost an year. Efforts included. 1) Organized Conferences 2) Created websites (nrivotingrights.info) 2) Took booths for signature campaigns 3) Called all 543 Loksabha MPs 4) Wrote letters to all the Parliamentarians 5) Watched the proceedings closely in both the houses when the bill was finally put in. Ofcourse there were only 27 MPs in Loksabha when it came up. 6) Sent few representatives to the Pravasi Bharati Divas 2011 7) Did not leave a chance to meet MPs who visited Bay Area! Now that NRI Voting Rights is a reality, It is time to remember friends who worked day in and day out! Above all time to remember Dr JP! Happy Birthday Peddayana!!
