Remembering the scum bag, US Senator Henry (poop) Jackson. The following is a summary of a CIA memo: MEMO for DCIA dated Feb. 21, 1973 From: Chief Western Hemisphere Subject: Proposed CIA Response to Request for Information by the Senate Foreign Relation Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations /// Translated: How much of the truth Mr. Maury, CIA Legislative Council should tell this Subcommittee, if anything. (My words)// Paragraph 4.a and b: Mr. Maury be authorized to sound out Senator (Henry) Jackson on the prospects of CIA being able to obtain either Senator Stennis or Senator Symington’s assistance in arranging for the CIA Subcommittee of the Armed Services Committee to stop any questioning about CIA’s covert operation in Chile and ITT corporation by the Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations. “In this connection it should be noted that Senator Jackson has a proven record of supporting CIA and in the past his advice on how CIA might handle a particular piece of Congressional business has been sound.” (translated: he has help the CIA cover up or hide information from Congress regarding CIA crimes/my words). “In addition, Senator Jackson is discreet (can lie as needed) and can be counted on not to comment further on what he learns about CIA or ITT actions in Chile during 1970…” … The CIA should work toward the goal of having its testimony on events in Chile during 1970 shifted to the CIA Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services committee.” Once that happens the CIA could lie about using funding from ITT to help over throw the democratically elected government of Chile. (my words). foia.cia.gov/sites/default/files/document_conversions/89801/DOC_0000096944.pdf Salvador Allende won the 1970 Chilean presidential election on September 4, 1970. Notwithstanding he won via a democratic election, President Richard Nixon delivered a clear and forceful Directive calling for expanded CIA operations in Chile. In the weeks between Allende’s election and his inauguration planned for 3 November, the CIA actively sought to foment a coup in Chile. Washington was unequivocal about its desire to keep Allende from power. American actions against the Allende government occurred in what Nixon’s National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger, called the “Autumn of Crises.” In Chile it was the custom for their congress to certify the winner of elections. Nixon was determined to prevent Allende from taking office. Nixon was listening to a Chilean people connected to the communications corporation ITT and Pepsi-Cola, Donald Kendall among them, and a wealthy Chilean conservative, Augustin Edwards. On September 15, eleven days after the elections, at a meeting in the oval office, President Nixon said that he wanted to prevent Allende from taking office -- which could be accomplished only by Chiles armed forces. (Source: The Trial of Henry Kissinger, by Christopher Hitchens) The CIA told Nixon there were military men who could be persuaded to lead such a coup against Allende, but standing in the way was the head of Chiles military: General René Schneider, who was opposed to military interference in their politics. According to Stephen Kinzer, in Overthrow, CIA agents passed money to a retired rightist general, Roberto Viaux and on October 23, 1970 Gen. Schneider was assassinated by conspirators allied with Viaux. But the coup did not happen and Allende took office as President of Chile on November 3, 1970. On September 11, 1973 the military moved to oust Allende in a CIA-sponsored coup détat. As troops surrounded La Moneda Palace, Allende gave his last speech vowing not to resign. He died later that day.
