Reminded this morning of how many friends advised me to pick Jebb for police chief because it was smart politics and would likely keep me from having an opponent. Those who supported Charette would understand while those supporting Jebb would not actively campaign for Kos. After a lot of sleepless nights, I decided that it was more important to do the right thing than the political thing. Result was somewhat ironic with all the bad and vocal cops supporting Kos and civil service saying that my choice was based on politics and personal bias. If I wanted to simply get reelected by making a safe, political choice, I would have done the wrong thing for all the wrong reasons. Despite losing the election, I would make the same choice again for many of the same reason. The look the other way culture at the CPD needs to change so all the real law enforcement professionals (and there are dozens) can have a chance to shine without fear or intimidation.
