Reminder--Open Auditions tomorrow are at Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, 553 South King Street, Honolulu, HI, for The Good of the Public Health. This new production will premiere on June 20, 2014, at Oahu Cemetery in Nuuanu Valley. This is the fifth Cemetery Pupu Theatre production in this popular series of historical vignettes and will focus on issues of the public health in the 19th and early 20th centuries in Honolulu. Dr. Archibald Neil Sinclair (1871 – 1930) was the first director of Leahi Hospital, Dr. William L. Moore (1863 – 1916) of the Federal Leprosy Investigation Laboratory, Dr. Sarah Eliza Pierce Emerson (1855 – 1838) the first licensed female physician in Hawai‘i, Hali‘a, whose name means memory, or fond recollection, is a representative victim of the 1853 smallpox epidemic and Dr. John Mott-Smith (1824 – 1895) was Hawai‘i’s first royal dentist. Cemetery Pupu Theatre returns to O‘ahu Cemetery with help from the Cooke Foundation and co-sponsorship of O‘ahu Cemetery & Crematory.
