Reminder ! Get your candidates questions in this week for the October 9th forum HUERFANO COUNTY — Make sure your voice is heard this election season. Get your questions for candidates in to the Huerfano World Journal this week as we prepare for next week’s Candidates / Election forum. You may email your questions to newsdesk.hwj@gmail or bring them by our office at 500 Main St., in Walsenburg. The Candidate / Election forum will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 pm Thursday, October 9 at the Spanish Peaks Public Library in Walsenburg. There are four candidates running for Huerfano County Commissioner; Gerald Cisneros (D), Oress J. DeHerrera (U), Fred Rodriguez (U) and Keith Varner (R). There are two candidates for Huerfano County Clerk & Recorder; Nancy Cruz(D) and Scott King (U). There are two candidates for Huerfano County Assessor; Louise ‘Chuky’ Sandoval (D) and Wilma C. Martinez (R). There are two candidates for Huerfano County Sheriff; Bruce Newman (D) and Jim Chamberlain (R). There are two candidates for Huerfano County Coroner; Rebecca A. Mitchell (R) and Vonnie K. Maier-Valdez (D). Huerfano County voters will also be asked two questions in this year’s county ballot. One concerns Imposition of an Excise Tax on Commercial Marijuana that will be discussed by Huerfano County Administrator John Galusha. The other question asks if the City of Walsenburg can Increase local Sales Tax by One Percent for a five-year period. This issue will be addressed at the forum by Walsenburg Mayor James Eccher. Questions for individual candidates or those for the two speakers on the local ballot issues are sought from the public, as time will not allow for questions to be taken from the audience at the event.
