Reminder: HOMELESS COUNT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Every January the Pinellas County Homeless Leadership Board conducts a comprehensive survey of our homeless population. This year we will be conducting the count on Thursday, January 23, 2014. On this date representatives of social service agencies, aided by hundreds of community volunteers, will spread throughout Pinellas County to conduct a manual count and survey the needs of people experiencing homelessness. A complete and accurate count helps us better understand what their needs are, so that we can assist them in getting back on their feet, as well as the reasons why they became homeless, so that we can prevent others from suffering the same fate. Additionally, the results of this survey helps our community obtain millions in federal dollars to fund programs and services that assist our homeless population. The Pinellas County Homeless Leadership Board desperately needs your help to make this count a success. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the county to perform the following duties: Counter/Surveyor:(Outdoors) Volunteers are needed to canvass the County in 3- 4 hour shifts on January 23, 2014. Volunteers work in 3-4 person teams, canvass a designated area and survey the homeless people they encounter. Each team will have at least one person who has experience doing the count and survey. Deployment/Collection Center Volunteer: (Indoors) Volunteers are needed to work at one of the survey deployment/collection centers located throughout the county and will be responsible for: *Checking the field teams in and out *Dispensing survey packets, t-shirts and incentives *Maintaining contact with survey teams to answer questions and address issues that may arise during the day *Data Quality Assurance Volunteer: (Outdoors or Indoors) Volunteers will be needed to work with the “Counting Teams” to review the surveys for completeness and accuracy. *Support Volunteer: (Outdoors) Many volunteers will be needed prior to the count in order to help with projects like pre-packing field team supplies and incentives for the homeless clients; and, coordinating pick-up and distribution of supplies at the Deployment/Collection Centers. *All volunteers will be required to attend a mandatory 1 to 1.5 hour training session. Trainings will be held at multiple locations and times (both day and evening sessions). Volunteers may also attend an online training if unable to attend in person. Each volunteer will receive a colorful t-shirt, (sure to become a collectors item), the gratitude of the members of the Homeless Leadership Board, and most importantly, a deep sense of satisfaction that only comes from serving others in their time of need.
