Reminder: San Leandro students will start taking the SBAC standardized state in the upcoming days. As you know, I believe that standardized testing is harmful for our childrens education. In San Leandro, it has pushed the district to have teachers teach to the test, concentrate in helping children who are below passing, to the peril of those who are advanced, and done away with the teaching of social and natural sciences in many of our elementary schools. There is a growing movement of parents who oppose testing. In California, state law allows parents to not have their kids take the test. All you need to do is send a letter to the principal saying you are exempting your child from taking it. You dont need to give a reason. I encourage everyone to do so.
