Reminder: Thursday, August 7th, 14th, 21st, & 28th: “Curvalicious Tango” for beginning and intermediate dancers (levels 2-6); 7-8:15pm at 520 Dana Street in SLO (Odd Fellows Hall); $15 to drop in; $70 for a 7-class punch card; students under 24 get all dance cards at 50% off! In August, we will explore how curves and circles play a crucial role in dancing Argentine Tango. Expose yourself to a different conception of the dance as well as new ways of thinking about the partnership; learn valuable tips that will help you perfect your technique as well as supplement your understanding of the basic rules for dancing Argentine Tango, Vals, and Milonga well. ___ LEVEL 2 (strong beginner) – this individual has demonstrated competency with respect to the first five requirements & abilities listed below for the “beginning tango dancer.” LEVEL 3 (exceptional beginner) – this individual has demonstrated competency with respect to all seven requirements & abilities listed below for the “beginning tango dancer.” Check list of capabilities for the “beginning” tango dancer: 1. one consistently strives to dance with correct tango posture & technique as well as maintain one’s balance without relying upon the partnership 2. one is developing a good awareness of one’s own axis as well as the of the axis of one’s partner 3. one is proficient walking/dancing in-line with partner in parallel system 4. one is comfortable walking/dancing outside partner in both parallel & cross system 5. one frequently experiences stable and comfortable calesitas & molinetes while dancing 6. one is capable of dancing the 6 & 8-count basics with or without rhythmic changes 7. one is able to produce or execute at least simple variations of forward and backward ochos with little effort For descriptions of other skill levels, please contact Laura. If a dancer attends an instructional event whose content is beyond that dancer’s skill level and said dancer has no designated partner, then that individual will be invited to observe the class but not participate.
