Remnant prayer journal: 2013.08.15 Challenging ourselves as children of God 1 Samuel 24:16~22 You have just now told me about the good you did to me; the Lord delivered me into your hands, but you did not kill me. ♬ Hymn for scheduled worship: Korean/English Hymnal #429 When Upon Life’s Billows (#489 in previous version) A child of God possesses strength. This is the mystery of being together with God and the strength to win over a world like Goliath. While others may see a crisis, for a child of God, it is the time schedule to experience God’s strength. David enjoyed this mystery and even challenged Goliath confidently with the name of God. As children of God, how can we challenge the world with the strength to win over the world? 1. Spiritual challenge There are times when because of misunderstandings between people, we receive scars. Although we are with many people, we can be lonely. However, time alone is an opportunity to challenge ourselves spiritually before God. During our time alone we should meditate on God’s Word and seek out the answers God has given us. Also, we should do our best for God, and not for people, and prepare our skills. Then God will give us the unique answer that the world cannot give and God will use me to do His work. 2. Challenge the world The world is full of the forces of darkness and many souls die without knowing the Gospel. We must not be afraid of this world. Whether you study or work, we must challenge the forces of darkness. Similar to the way the evil spirits fled when David sang praises, God’s children have the mystery and power to win over the forces of darkness. In the same way that David challenged Goliath with faith, we must challenge the world for world evangelization with the spiritual strength God has given us to enjoy. 3. Challenge the future There are troubles that befall the children of God. David faced various situations and difficulties. However, David looked towards the future and challenged those situations. He did this by holding onto the answer that God would raise him as king. As a child of God, his future was guaranteed by God. Because of this, there was no need to shake or become disheartened. The fact is that the blessing of God being with you is the answer for the future. Forum Topic When God’s children go out holding onto the covenant, nothing can defeat them. Meditate on the mystery of true victory, and ask yourself, “How can I challenge my given field of work, my skills, and the field?” Immanuel Church Sunday Worship 2nd Service / 2013.4.14
