Remnant prayer journal: The baptism of the Holy Spirit (3.18, 2014) Acts 19:1-7 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. The Holy Spirit is with those who have receive salvation. When a saved child of God enjoys the Gospel and gains the strength that comes from within it, answers will follow. Starting from this moment, the Word gets fulfilled. If we are always enjoying the Gospel, we will start to see answers. The person who has received the Gospel will absolutely experience the work of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, when the disciples at Ephesus believed, Paul asked what kind of baptism they had received. This is an important question. What does the baptism of the Holy Spirit mean? 1. The work of the Holy Spirit that arose in Marks upper room The baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking about the work of God that arose in Marks upper room. The disciples saw that Jesus won against the power of death on Mount Calvary, and triumphed. Afterward, the resurrected Christ spoke about the kingdom of God and the filling of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. Also, He commanded them to go and make disciples of all nations. When the disciples who had this covenant prayed together at marks house, they experienced the work of the Holy Spirit on the day of the Pentecost, which was like wind and fire. 2. The baptism of the Holy Spirit that was relayed to Priscilla and her husband The work of God that began in Marks upper room got relayed on the day of Pentecost to Priscilla and her husband who came from Rome. They met the evangelist Paul, and also met with a new business and new evangelism field. Starting from this moment, God gave them the blessing of meeting workers like Apollos. They also received the blessing of the mission home and raised disciples in their home. God also poured down financial blessings, enough to evangelize Rome. If we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the same answers will arise for us even now. 3.The baptism of the Holy Spirit relayed to Paul Although Paul was not present in Marks upper room, that covenant was relayed to Paul through Ananias and Barnabas in Damascus. Afterwards, through the Antioch Church centered on Paul, the covenant was relayed to Macedonia, Rome and the world mission field. In this way, through the meeting between Paul who experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit and Priscilla and her husband, the works by which the world changed arose.
