Rempstone Roast Race-1 Well a good humoured bunch assembled - TopicsExpress

Rempstone Roast Race-1 Well a good humoured bunch assembled prior to the 1st Rempstone Roast and we sorted ourselves out, with bikes racked and numbers punched. Ok the Girls in the team were a little put out that they were not privileged to have a “Rebel Scum” race top, however this will be remedied for the next event, honest. So how did it go……. Well 10amrlled around and the shout from Michelle went out and we were off. Ian by my side, Trev & Loe just in front of me with Dave & Carrie just behind me…. a fast escape from the off through the Campsite and out on to the trail beyond, granted fairly dry with a couple of usual suspect puddles that I could not help running through and testing the depth prior to hitting them at speed on the bike.. Better safe than sorry. With Ian just in front of me doing his best impression of a freshly paid pro, forever pulling the shorts out of the crack of his ass, I nearly missed him stopping in front of me to duck under the only fallen tree in Rempstone, I continue with my “Chubby Scotsman Coming Through” pace and slowly chunder passed Ian following the trail. On the only real running climb I catch up with Dave And have a wheezing chat with him as we crest the rise and fall down the natural decline of the run route to the start. One of the few times that “GRAVITY IS MY FRIEND” I start free fall running letting my arms and legs pump out at a natural downhill pace and ecking out a little space between myself and Dave Wiltshire And a little more to Ian Povey. A quick and easy transition to the bike for the 2 lap 14km bike leg.. No issues and even managed to push another competitor up towards Franks Tank… Lap-1 at the furthest point out I eventually catch and pass Loe, who still had no flat tyres, but did look like she was spinning out her legs…. Lap-2 I managed to pass a few others, and could see a white Rebel Scum shirt in the distance, TREV but nope nothing left in the tank to reel him in. Although I did get close enough in transition to shout “I still have a chance” Yeah right in my dreams… Last run leg with the sound of Cow Bells ringing in my ears BLOODY HELL, that hurts….. Run – Bike no problem, Bike to Run! Oh that hurt.. Sorry legs you’d better start working as there is a Dave Wiltshire And a Povey coming at us.. Right off we go, into the campsite for the last time and a few High Fives from the kids and we are off, OK I admit it, I got passed by a couple of racing snakes, but more importantly they were not Rebel Scum.. Last run stretch running to the finish line and DONE…. Pictures form the support crew, Thanks Debs, Clare & JoJo. Chat with Trev whose been finished for 2mins and he looks fresh as a daisy….. Arse, and I’ve spent 2bike laps chasing him down.. 2mins later Povey appears looking how I feel, great… Top effort sir. Shortly behind is Loe looking, ah slightly done in.. Great effort. Then we have Carrie on her first Duathlon, and looking fresh and mud free.. Your such a Mum.. And then we have Dave, looking like a Sandman in a Jungle, and wondering WTF have I signed up for Jessiman? A great event all round and for everyone except me, DNF WTF happened there, I finished after Trev.....
