Remus stood in the dark and stretched. He was surprised how little his body hurt, but he wasnt going to complain. As he looked around for his wand, he noticed the calm in the air. He opened the door to the dark room and listened hard. The shouts of spells and the explosions were gone, replaced by an empty silence. He stepped into the corridor to explore, wishing he had his wand. Perhaps he could find one from a fallen Death Eater. He wandered through the halls, passing countless mourners, holding individual silent vigils. He could see the Weasleys huddled around Freds body. He felt his stomach drop when he saw Tonks. He crouched next to her, staring at her lifeless form as a single tear rolled down his cheek. Im so sorry. he heard Hermione say from behind him. He blinked his sadness from his eyes but continued to look at Tonks. Thank you, Hermione. It isnt fair. I know, he said, but war rarely- It isnt fair. she repeated, her voice shaking. Hermione... he turned to look at her. You werent supposed to be my should-have-been. She sobbed. Remus stared at her, then followed her eyes. How did he not see him? Lying just feet from where he was, a mere few feet from Tonks, was... Remus. Hermione said, wiping her eyes. I love you. You alright there, Moony? Shock on his face, Remus spun around. Padfoot? In the flesh. Sirius said with a smile. In a manner of speaking. James said, appearing from nowhere. He held his hand up. Remus held his hand up too, placing it to the palm of James. He could still see his friends smirk through the skin. Am I- Fraid so, mate. James said. But its not so bad. Sirius cuffed him on the shoulder. This is the worst bit. He nodded to Hermione, silently shaking. I had no idea. Remus said softly. Shell be okay. Lily said. Remus looked at her. Even in death, she was still the beauty everyone talked about. Her green eyes electrifying the paleness of her face. Shell grow old. Shell marry and have children, but shell always love you. Remus sighed heavily. She doesnt marry Ron does she? Lily smiled as James and Sirius laughed. Come on, mate. Sirius said. Theres so much to see, and an eternity to spend wrecking it all. Remus grinned before turning to Hermione. He crouched down next to her ear and whispered Ill wait for you. She inhaled sharply and spun around, but the voice was gone, carried away by the silence. ~Neo
