Renaissance by Peace Flores The glory of kingdoms and the grandeur of empires wax and wane with the sundials shadow and may crumble like fragile parchment on philosophers discourses or tragedian plays, dilapidated by many centuries of age A mountain of fire vents its rage upon the citizens of Pompeii So too did the walls of Thera sink at the relentlessness of Hephaestus and Poseidon. How many calamities by man toppled the temples of Artemis and Zeus? How many iconoclasts and vandals smashed down the monuments of Caesar? What is lost cannot cannot be reclaimed but what is found can be renewed. Mans curiosity for learning is still as robust as Eratosthenes and Heraclitus. Scholars even to the east ponder to this day the wise words of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. That armless statue of Aphrodite, those nameless maidens on the frescoes of Crete, muses for the artists unadorned canvas. A sculptor attempts to chisel in marble the martial pride of Augustus or the bronze hardiness of the resting Boxer. The classic may grow old and be forgotten yet, no matter how centuries pass, upon rediscovery, the old becomes the new. Unearth the past! Sweep away the dust and ashes for Beauty and Wisdom never die, Kallos and Sophia live forever!
