Renovation diary: Okay, so its still a basement, so dont expect anything too impressive. The ceilings are too low for it to qualify as legal living space, and its still a bit dusty overall, with ductwork and pipes running through it. But we dont have a tv on the first floor, and we were trying to create a decent space in the basement for tv-watching with friends (the only other option is our bed, which is perhaps a bit awkward), for tv-watching while walking on the treadmill, and for tv-watching while sewing. Yes, we like tv. :-) We didnt want to spend a lot of money. So mostly, this is just putting up a little bit of drywall (sectioning off one small room for mechanicals / storage, another room for Kevins messy beer-brewing, and leaving the large long stretch for workout space / sofa / crafting). Then painting the drywall blue, and the concrete floor green. I like how they look against the old foundation / chimney brick (from 1885!). Throw down a few rugs, a grey IKEA sofa and a bunch of blue IKEA shelving, and a few desi-flavored pieces of furniture (from Nadeau) and its starting to look reasonably cheerful down there. And only a little chilly, in the worst of winter. Running on the treadmill takes care of that. :-) I wouldnt try to sew for too long in the depths of winter, though, unless I directed a space heater onto my fingers. The first photo is pre-reno. The rest are now -- I tried to stand in the middle and kind of spin around to give you a 360 view. Theres still some clean-up to do (I just cleaned one window today, so a fair bit more grime to go), and a pile of stuff to organize in one corner, but its coming along nicely. Finally (five years into moving in)!
