Renowned naturalist, seasoned nemesis and, currently, visitor to the Munson Dove Mountain household, Alan Sender, finishes his steep, strenuous walk up Tumamoc Hill, one of the earliest sites of American study of Ecology. The desert laboratory atop this hill was enabled in the small mining and ranching town of Tucson by the Carnegie Institute in 1903, studying desert adaptations of plants, and it has been documenting plant and animal life on this undisturbed hill overlooking The Old Pueblo ever since. Asked his reaction to this birthplace of American Ecology, Sender was was without enough breath, due to his climb, to answer.
