Renowned street artist JPS donates five rare signed prints to raise funds for Three Days in November, a Walsall Arts Fest event JPS and Carolyn Bayliss crossed paths several years ago when he curated a show of some of the country’s leading urban artists in his home town of Weston super Mare. Carolyn was aware at the time of his increasing following and JPS has now done work around the UK, in Norway and the States and has an international following. It was only five years ago that Jamie Paul Scanlon had found himself a “homeless junkie” and he has used this experience to turn his life around in a positive way. WAF organiser Carolyn Bayliss watched the “journey to the Gurney” unfold on Facebook. That was when JPS went to the disused mental hospital Barrow Gurney and made it his with this work and is where the Clown piece which is being auctioned to raise funds is. JPS called this “a lighthearted street battle” where he called out Banksy, but Banksy never answered. Leatherface is in Utsira in Norway in memory of the now demolished mental hospital and the Bear piece was almost censored as Norway is not too fond of guns. But it is the Balloon Girl that is one of JPS’s most successful images and got them talking in Bristol when some people thought that it may have been the work of Banksy himself. The world is JPS’s canvas and his work includes a 16ft Alien which blew the street art scene away this year. He draws on references to modern society with a lamppost turned into a Stella bottle, CCTV becoming a London Underground tube and a policeman on the back of a wheelie bin. “It is not just what he does, it is his placement that is so good” says Carolyn. “I can’t believe his work is anything from 16ft down to the size of a 50p piece either.” The five rare signed pieces are being auctioned on ebay along with a Launer London handbag. The Walsall Arts Fest has attracted some amazing sponsors this year. If you want a copy of the full publicity set please contact Carolyn Bayliss through the Walsall Arts Fest page on Facebook.
