Reorganization plan has unanswered questions I will be voting - TopicsExpress

Reorganization plan has unanswered questions I will be voting against the referendum on county government restructuring. While I agree with the general idea, I am strongly opposed to this specific proposal. There are simply too many questions for which neither side is offering answers. Taxpayers deserve answers to these questions before voting. For example: With the elimination of two commissioners would come the increase in workload for the remaining executive. With increased work often comes an expectation for an increase in pay. What will that pay increase be? With the increase of County Council members from seven to nine, what will the new representational boundaries be? How will council members be distributed throughout the county? With the duties of County Council increased from purely fiscal to both fiscal and legislative, members of County Council would experience an increased workload. Again, with increased work often comes an expectation for an increase in pay. What will that pay increase be? Had the plan simply eliminated two commissioners, kept the structure of County Council the same, added legislative functions to County Council and made provisions to keep all rates of pay as they were previously, then I would be voting for the proposal. Sadly, that is not what has happened here. I ask you to join me in voting to say no to county government restructuring and no to a single county executive at this time. Lets nix this plan and send it back to the drawing board. GINA M. BURGESS, Fort Wayne journalgazette.net/article/20141015/EDIT09/310159951/1149/EDIT09
