Rep. Barton supports Border Security packages, Urges President Obama to take action WASHINGTON: Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) issued the following statement after voting for the border security package on Friday: Positive, productive discussions and meetings resulted in a more conservative, tightly worded piece of legislation. This bill contains constructive directives to the President and the executive branch on how to secure the border, humanely treat the children already here, and expedite review of any new arrivals with the goal of quickly reuniting these unaccompanied minors with loved ones back in their home countries. It also reimburses our state fully for the cost of deploying the Texas National Guard. “What isn’t in this legislative package is just as important. It doesn’t include a blank check for the President. In fact the $694 million price tag is fully paid for and just a fraction of the $3.7 billion requested by the Administration. It doesn’t include amnesty.We voted to stop Obama’s deferred action scheme, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA, and prevent him from declaring amnesty by executive order. “It is now up to the Senate and the President to act.”
