Rep. Terri Sewell: Why are you voting with the GOP? Please attend Terri Sewells town hall meetings and ask her about her recent votes. First, she has steadfastly voted YES on the Keystone XL Pipeline, while misleading her constituents about this bill. Obama has pledged to veto it so why wont she support President Obama. Even the Congressional Budget Office and the corporations who want the pipeline concede that it will create fewer than 100 permanent jobs in the US. Keystone is a serious threat to the environment, hydrocarbon pollution, is opposed by environmentalists as a hazard to major drinking water aquifers in the US, and will violate long-standing property rights. This is a Koch Brothers, fossil fuel funded bill, which will do nothing for Alabama citizens. She is one of only a handful of Democrats who have supported this bill and opposed President Barack Obama. Next, ask her why she is voting to dismantle key provisions of Dodd-Frank. The Dodd-Frank bill was put in place after the reckless Wall Street interests and big banks brought about the financial disaster of 2008. Now, by stripping key provisions of this bill, we will once again allow bankers to gamble with our life savings, and if and when they fail, the taxpayers will be on the hook. Just take a look at where Rep. Sewells money comes from: Big banks, big law firms, lobbyists, Wall Street interests. Alabama deserves better. As Alabamas only Democrat in Congress (one Dem, eight Republicans) we all have a right to shed light on her representation of her district--one of the poorest in the country. How many average people among her constituents care about the Koch brothers business or Citibank? Ms. Sewell needs to think about our own; the education of our sons and daughters, healthcare in Alabama, OUR OWN INFRASTRUCTURE--highways and bridges. Yet her focus seems to be on keeping safe and warm in this Democratic Congressional seat. Please just attend and ask her why she would vote for these bills. Let her know that people in the district are watching. And ask her to be honest with her constituents about these bills.
