Rep. Yoho Statement on Cuba Prisoner Exchange and Policy Changes Dec 17, 2014 Press Release Gainesville, FL– Congressman Ted S. Yoho (FL-03), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement in response to the release of Alan Gross and a United States intelligence agent for three Cuban spies, as well as the Obama Administration’s reversal of 50 plus years of US-Cuban policies: “While I am pleased Mr. Gross has been returned to his family, I do not support the Administration’s actions in reaching this outcome. Unilaterally reversing 50 plus years of foreign policy needs to be debated and discussed in Congress – with input from the American people. Ignoring the concerns and ideas of both, is not the right course of action. The Administration should place the interest of America first while negotiating terms that seek to end the oppression of the Cuban people. “President Obama has a history of unilaterally giving up the farm in exchange for nothing in foreign policy negotiations. This weakens our global stance when he should be doing everything he can to strengthen our country. The deal that was struck today benefits Cuba more than it benefits the United States. If relations between our two countries are going to be reestablished, the liberty and freedom of the Cuban people needs to be respected. “In regards to the release of three Cuban spies, who were imprisoned for conspiring to harm Americans, this sends a dangerous precedent for any regime wanting leverage over the United States. That is unacceptable. I cannot stress this enough: the priority of this President should be to serve the best interest of America and the security of the American people.”
