Repentance II The first step on the path of affinity to God is - TopicsExpress

Repentance II The first step on the path of affinity to God is repentance. What is repentance? What is psychologically and what are its consequences spiritually? Man has the capability to repent while other beings are bereft of it. It is not something just verbal. It is a psychological and spiritual revolution of the mind. Uttering this repentance many times a day does not mean we are repentant. We ask the almighty to forgive us and that we promise not to repeat that deed in the future. When we fulfill this promise and supplement it with helpful and beneficial deeds for mankind; then only will a repentance be taken to be complete. Repentance manifests the noble qualities within us and crushes the will to sin and suppress or oppress others. A human being does not have only one mouth; it has hundreds of mouths to be fed, the mouth of desire, the mouth of love, and the mouth of worship. When we concentrate on feeding the mouth of desires only then we tend to over the rights of other human beings who may not agree to our views and our religion but definitely have the right to exist and live peacefully. This is the essence which the Wahhabis and the non-tolerant people like the Christian politicians in the US and the NATO countries miss completely; and in India we have the Jamaatis and the Sanghis. These are proud people who believe that only they are right and so in the name of Astha, Deen or nationalism they tend to persecute and oppress those who do not agree with them. Bushr ibn Artas was a most cruel general of Muawiyyah whose policy was to kill those who sided with the rightful Khalifa Ali Ibn Abi Talib(AS). Bushr attacked Yemen and killed two teenage sons of Obaidullah Ibn Abbas but his conscience kept pricking for the shameful sin that he had committed. He could not reconcile himself for it so he went out and rode a wooden horse in the street with a wooden sword in one hand and a whip in the other, followed by groups of children hooting and laughing at him. He shamed himself but does it compensate for the loss of the two boys? If you leave a clear mirror in a place where you think, the air is pure and fine, you will see a layer of dust collected on it an hour later even though you had not felt that any dust was in the air before. When a wall is dirty no stain shows on it in an obvious way and if it is blackened with tar, you cannot distinguish any trace of dirt or stain on it. Your soul and character are this mirror and if you do not see the stains of your sins on it then be warned that your conscience is dying and your path to repentance is being sealed; you are being damned. Don’t you feel that you should repent immediately? Think about. This is just my opinion.
