Report: St. Louis Rams Owner Plans to Build New Stadium in L.A. LOS ANGELES, Calif. (WGGB) — The St. Louis Rams have become the front-runner for what seems to be the inevitable move of an NFL franchise to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reports that Rams owner Stan Kroenke plans to build a stadium just outside of L.A., leading many to believe the team will make a return to the City of Angels. Kroenke bought 60 acres adjacent to the Forum in Inglewood, California one year ago. He reportedly has joined that space with another lot for plans to build an 80,000-seat NFL stadium. However, the move is far from a reality. It’s one of many proposals to build a home for a new NFL team in Los Angeles, but the new lot represents the first time that a current owner has controlled a local site large enough for the construction of a new stadium. The franchise left Los Angeles in 1994, moving to St. Louis, Missouri. Despite a Super Bowl title in 1999, support for the team has wavered throughout their time in St. Louis. Kroenke is a real estate mogul who has billions to spend on a potential move. The team will decide by February whether they want to change their lease in St. Louis to a year-to-year deal. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said that no NFL team would make the move to L.A. before 2016. Meanwhile, the Rams aren’t the only team in the hunt. The nearby Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers are also reportedly eyeing a move from their old and out-dated stadiums. That being said, the nation’s second-largest television market would certainly be a candidate for two NFL teams, as they support a similar set-up in the NBA.
