Report from FMSNI: PANI (Pain Alliance of Northern Ireland) Commissioning of Pain Services. Earlier this week two delegates from FMSNI, Margaret Peacock and Erin Morrison, attended PANI Commissioning Pain Services Conference in Belfast. FMSNI were kindly invited to attend by Dr Pamela Bell, Chair of PANI. As those of you whom attended the FMSNI conference in August will know Dr Bell is a true campaigner and researcher of chronic pain. FMSNI were delighted to attend and represent our members and other sufferers of Fibromyalgia in Northern Ireland. The conference mainly focused on how services for the treatment of long-term pain sufferers are now delivered and how they could be improved/ changed to best suit patients’ needs in the future. Speakers included: • Dr Pamela Bell Chair of PANI • Mrs Louise Skelly of Patient Client Council (PCC) • Dr Sarah Muckle Consultant in Public Health Medicine Huddersfield • Dr William Campbell President of British Pain Society (BPS) • Dr Martin Johnson Honorary Secretary BPS and RCGP Clinical Champion for Pain The conference included: • A tweeting clinic (@PainAllianceNI) • An overview of The Pain Tool Kit (paintoolkit.org), • Discussion of PCC survey of NI Patient Experience of Pain Services (patientclientcouncil.hscni.net) • Experience of pain services in Kirklees England (kirklees.nhs.uk/selfcare) • Discussion of Pain Pathways (britishpainsociety.org) The tweeting clinic can be found on twitter @PainAllianceNI #PANI13), this gives details of the conference as it happened. At the end there was a facilitated discussion where we had the opportunity to voice the needs of FMS Sufferers. This was a great Conference and by participating in events like this and providing access to PCC Surveys (which FMSNI members completed at our FMS/ME Conference) FMSNI can create awareness and provide a voice for Fibromyalgia Sufferers in Northern Ireland. We would like to thank Dr Bell for including FMSNI. The Pain Toolkit - Helping People With Persistent Pain paintoolkit.org
