Report on my progress and how I feel eating - TopicsExpress

Report on my progress and how I feel eating ketogenically: Started keto diet approx Sept 29, 2014 I will report on my diabetes and blood sugar readings separately. They are stellar!!!!! I will continue to say.....educate yourself FIRST before doing this so you know what to expect!! For example drinking water, salting food and taking magnesium is crucial on this lifestyle. In the beginning, first 2 weeks anyway, I ate as much food as I always had. For me, that has dramatically changed and I dont eat a lot of food at all now. Just not hungry, have no cravings. I can honestly report I have not cheated even once. This food makes it easy to not cheat! At about the 7 to 10 day mark, I got very sick with carb flu and I was yucky for about 3 days. I have had a few rare yucky days since BUT, as I go forward, they are less and less! I know folks who did NOT get carb flu but have had a yucky day here and there. I had some reactive hypoglycemia in the beginning too from time to time and when I took a blood sugar test, it was totally normal My body was whining!!! Not a true hypoglycemia....though it physically felt like it!! If I had not read and known of this, it would have freaked me out!! It only makes sense that after running on glucose as fuel for 63 years I would have some issues switching over to burning ketones as fuel. I was willing to pay any price. Attitude is everything!! I have lost about 18 lbs at this point. Weight loss should be the last thing on your mind. It just happens with this lifestyle, patience is prudence. For me, I feel terrific, it has cleared up mood and behavior issues which includes hunger feelings and cravings, it is clearing up some major health issues and I seem to have gained some muscle strength! Stress is virtually a thing of the past. My keel is more even than ever before!!! My sleep has improved DRAMATICALLY! I try to cut off drinking liquids about 7 pm and if I dont get up in the night to urinate, I sleep ALL NIGHT LONG! If I do get up, I go right back to sleep. I know the magnesium helps but I have taken that for several years....there is simply a great difference in my sleep! I cant say enough about how my sleep has changed and what a difference that has made in me physically and emotionally. Sweet rest! I have not experienced some of the constipation issues that some face with this lifestyle but my bathroom habits have changed. I did experience oily stool a day or two but that went away. Acacia fiber is great to use and I make sure we get plenty of raw veggie salads (loaded with high fat dressings!) and celery sticks and leafy greens like spinach and cabbage throughout the week. Other non-starch, leafy veggies too but this just names a few. I basically have Bullet proof coffee in the morning....1 -2 cups. Half caff with a combo of Goya 3 ingredient canned coconut milk, heavy whipping cream (not whipped) and a scant tablespoon of Torino sugar-free Caramel flavoring. It has become very important to me not just because of satiety but because it is a real pleasure and something to look forward to in the morning!! High fat causes satiety! I have a lunch that is much smaller than I used to have. Example would be a 4 oz hamburger patty with garlic and butter on top and a big raw salad with dressing. I have a snack in the evening of 2 slices of Muenster cheese and 1 oz nuts. I salt EVERYTHING now! I also drink 2-3 quarts of water a day and I make Kool aid with Stevia and we drink that almost daily in addition to our water. We usually have any sugar free baked goods on the weekend and then Zev has them for his food in the first part of the week. I do try to keep fat bombs on hand for a quick grab when really busy and a meal gets shoved out of the way. Nuts (macadamias, pecans, walnuts) and Olives are always on hand here as are Bubbies brand pickles and sauerkraut for easy grabbing. So far, 2 different times, I have honestly forgotten to eat, but I was really busy. Fasting has become so easy. High fat causes satiety! Please feel free to ask any questions, nothing is off limits. Let me say AGAIN....every BODY is different so your experience my not be like mine. And healing and maintaining gut health is primary no matter how you eat!
