Reports earlier this week suggested that Liverpool had launched a £22 million bid which triggered a release clause in Mkhitaryan’s contract. Further reports have suggested Mkhitaryan is on his way to Liverpool to undergo a medical and complete a move to Anfield. A report published just today (Wednesday) in Armenian media said Mkhitaryan was due on a flight to London to negotiate terms with Liverpool on Thursday evening. Despite having had no contact from Liverpool, the Ukranian side are however open to offers for their star player, Sergei Palkin told Russian newspaper Izvestia. Palkin is quoted on ITV Football’s website as telling the newspaper, “As you know, there have been too many different conversations about Henrik Mkhitaryan. “But the situation has been strongly and artificially inflated. I can say that we have had no communication from any member of Liverpool. “Henrikh is an important player in our team. Shakhtar want to keep him but we are willing to listen and consider all proposals for his transfer. “We have already parted with Willian and Fernandinho but the club will not just sell players. “Soon we will also strengthen ourselves with quality players, designed to replace those who have left.” Mind you, that doesn’t mean there isn’t movement from Liverpool on the chasing of Mkhitaryan’s signature. Donetsk could well be employing tactics to push the transfer fee up, or delay the transfer until they find Mkhitaryan’s replacement to appease their fans. (Bob)
